I stated painting four years ago by accident, trying to balance the pressures and joys of running a non-profit crisis pregnancy center in Lansing, MI, and working for a degree in counseling at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. I started with words, almost inevitably Biblical words, and tried to "image" the words. I work with paints, paper, photos, collage, and 3-D objects. I'm VERY experimental. My thanks go to my first teacher, Kathleen Mooney of 318 Art Academy in Lowell, MI; my wonderful supportive husband Jim and two adult children, Emily and Graham, and first, always, and forever, God the Creator.
I am a word person, and almost all my paintings start with Biblical words; a line of a hymn; or simply one word. Using acrylics plus a mess of other stuff (ink, paper, photos, 3-D objects) , I then try to "image" the words. I am seldom literal and almost always experimental.
