Reid Masselink is a landscape painter based in Bourron-Marlotte, France, a small village at the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau. His work depicts the chaos and complexity of nature. He works from life, returning to the same site day after day, over several months, spending many hours observing the growth and decay of plant life under changing lighting conditions.
My art is about the forces of nature and how things like plants, rocks, and the sky exist and interact. I paint from life because that process indulges my desire to observe things closely. My paintings, I think, present models as to how living things, like us, are born, grow, how they cope with their environment, and how they die.
