Margaret Noel studied studio art and anthropology at Oberlin College, and earned her MFA in painting from the New York Studio School. She currently splits her time between her studio in Brooklyn and her position as a Professor in the Department of Art and Art History of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where she teaches drawing and mixed media.
Noel’s encaustic paintings fuse alternating layers of paper, pigment and beeswax to portray landscapes and interiors. Simplified shapes and exaggerated patterns make each scene feel familiar but half-forgotten– a blurred remembrance rather than a precise rendering.
