My most recent body of work is a study about my exploration of masculinity, femininity and sexuality. I’m specifically interested in where the lines between masculine and feminine, male or female, gay and straight blur and where, or if, they become definitive. For example, the line between sexes in childbearing, or the line between sexuality in masculine, aggressive physical sports. I’ve chosen oil painting for my method because of the materials relationship to the depiction of the body, the painter-painting relationship, and the way compositional, formal and technical elements are expressed to the viewer. I hope my work achieves, at first, invitation through empathetic aesthetics and then secondly contemplation about mending the social division between the male and female, masculinity and femininity, gay and straight.
