ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Kathleen Steventon was born in New York, and gained her Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University in Landscape Architecture in 1984. She practiced landscape design for 10 years, at the same time attending evening art instruction.  After moving overseas for many years, Kathleen moved back to the USA, to rural Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Currently she is a full-time animal artist. Within a few months of beginning her art career, Kathleen was granted a commission by the San Juan Mountain Association to paint one of the Pumas-on-Parade public art sculptures.  Currently Kathleen's works are for sale on her website, , as well as in the Two Old Crows Gallery in Pagosa Springs, CO. She continues to improve her painting skills and expand her connection to all things animal in her rustic Colorado studio space.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am inspired to connect with the animal energies that surround us; the physical beauty of the landscape and wildlife permeates our studio in the rural foothills of the San Juan Mountains in SW Colorado. As an animal lover-artist my main focus is to use the palette knife and oils-on-canvas to express my love of all fauna. I see animals' wildly colorful spirits, and do my best in our studio to capture both their pure joy of being alive, and their loving energies, so that others can feel what I feel. The heavy texture of my pieces leave a lot to the viewer's imagination, which most often leads to an emotional connection to each piece, and hopefully a deeper appreciation of the beauty of our natural world.
