Kate Nielsen
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Kate Nielsen is inspired by textures found in everyday life and outsider art. She holds a BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and studied Painting and Art History in France and Italy. Her process involves building up layers of acrylic paint that are then peeled, cut, and reincorporated into a new form. She is interested in human nature, ritual, and recollections and makes narrative based paintings. One of her on going series is based on survival tips she learns through word of mouth. They are illustrative worlds where man is myth and the landscape is imagined. While the landscapes are not of any one real place, they are often inspired by the Western United States where Kate spent her childhood. She has spent time in various places in the US and Europe and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
