My interest in systems and structure within a grid format is a systematic exploration of a basic structure and its subsequent deconstruction. The explorations include a more purely formal exercise and one where glimmers of science, nature, poetry and myth have an influence. Representative works show these specific qualities of my work, using generally restricted formal means. The painting’s ability to express a great deal with limited means testifies to the power of the painting language. These works are built on an evolving set of interrelations, rather than a system of theme and variations. Each painting is a meditation on a process of painting - not planned, but with each painting created in response to the previous and as a series of a whole. Although abstracted and set out in formal terms/language - the series within my work, does set up a narrative within the work as a whole.
