Emily Klima is a visual artist living and working in New York City. She graduated from Boston University's School of Fine Arts with a BFA and began her career as a graphic designer. Ms. Klima's love of abstract art inspired her to return to painting and create original works of art alive with a flurry of color and energy, made with drips and splatters and layers of collage.
Her engagement of formal aesthetic principles balance the dualities she embraces: order and chaos/discipline and freedom. “Composition is my first love,” says Ms. Klima, “and every painting contains within it my process of moving from control to letting go of control, and back again.”
Emily Klima is a visual artist based in New York City. She earned her BFA from Boston University, majoring in graphic design and spent her early years as an art director for various fashion publications. At heart a painter, Emily returned to her passion for creating original works of art. Inspired by the power of color, her provocative and stimulating body of work makes use of a variety of mediums; oilstick, acrylic, collage and mixed media on canvas, board and paper. Her experience as a graphic designer is evident in her current collection of abstract paintings which are often grounded by the use of text, the printed word and a symmetry of positive and negative space. Vivid and spontaneous yet balanced, her art is recognizable by her particular flurry of color and energy. Alive with drips and splatters, layers and texture Emily's work is an edgy mix of femininity and street vibe. Emily presently exhibits her work in New York City.
