The work is simply about about the complexity of experience. I have a tendency toward the didactic, and have set out to make paintings that resonate in a decidedly nonverbal sense. My interests are many, and Painting is a way to synthesize these often disparate ideas. The key is to set up a simple set of elements that can suggest complex ideas. I prefer to organize a body of work like a writer of short stories puts together a collection. My mode of operation is to make a large group of paintings that branch out into many areas, and then through an editorial process, choose the work that seems to share certain elements, and a more coherent body of work emerges.
