“One thing leads to another, then another, and so on”……. Starting with a deconstructed grid, I apply paint to canvas and work intuitively, layering textures until I arrive at a conclusion. I need to keep it fresh and interesting. To do so, I allow the physicality of the paint to give me clues as to how to proceed. I work in all manner of painting material. Most recently, with pigmented plaster and wax on wooden panels, as evidenced in my “Big-Little” series. My work is primarily abstract with a foothold in the real world. Dysfunctional geometry and excavated landscapes as viewed from a plane, for example, provide clues to what interests me. I construct a painting as if to continue off the picture plane into infinity in an all-over composition. Harmony and balance of shape and color offer a sense of calm within the chaos. Self-organizing systems move and flow, in and out. To give too much information would deprive the viewer from fully participating in the experience. My work is exhibited widely throughout the US and Europe, and is in many private and corporate collections.
