I work with found objects and books. Both have a voice and a past life and that’s what attracts me. I like when a surface shows you that time doesn’t stop. Usually discarded I embrace these books and their paper already filled with life’s marks and scuffs. I feed off that adding my own marks then sending them back out in to the world that once discarded them. My hope is that they tell my story and find their place as valued objects once again.
Back in 2004 i became intrigued with the Headress. Perhaps it was the idea of a handmade Ceremonial / status symbol in this day of mass produced material items ...[more]that caught me. Either way it started a journey of searching out old imagery and painting headdress's. This was the 3rd one and it was completed in 2008 in Bushwick Brooklyn.
The piece is on a book and lives in a medium brown stain wooden frame.[less]
