As an inhabitant of non-places of generic cities, I have always been concerned with the subject of cultural hybridity. I infuse my work with imageries that spring from my memories of nomadic experience of drifting among various cultures and traditions. The “Drifter” paintings portray lost souls roaming through fragmented artificial space with historical ruins and commercial products; depicting the obscurity of cultural boundaries today. Where as, through reiterating Chinese folklore stories into contemporized cross-cultural narratives. The ‘Pet series’ paintings transform mystical intimacies between man and animal to represent complex urbanites’ obsession of pet ownerships. Both series of paintings that I work on simultaneously illustrates the growth of human isolation led by the lost of culture, the development of information technology and globalization.
