The main theme of my work is my travels -- vacations, day trips, weekend getaways -- and especially my yearly pilgrimage to the island of Nantucket. Wherever I go, my camera and sketch pad are my constant companions. I record my impressions or images of people and nature and return to my studio to translate them into paintings. I am fascinated by shadows. I love to capture them and cast them onto my work. They add a dimension that is magical and mysterious to a painting. The challenge for me is to share the story of my experience with the viewer and to transport them to that moment in time. I feel that my work has a quality that is peaceful, pure, simple and true -- reminiscent of an era when life was lived at a much slower pace.
